Bio

Paula started translating in 1997 and since then she knew this was the career she wanted to pursue! Since then, she graduated in 2006 with a Master’s Degree in Specialized Translation and Interpretation with english and french as her working languages, and later spanish as her third language. Paula is also attending a postgraduate degree in Computer Assisted Translation aiming to take specific theoretical and practical training in the areas of assisted translation and localization, terminology management and translation projects management.

In 2010, Paula decided to create her own company - Crossingwords - and to undertake translation and interpretation as her main occupation, maintaining always her education and training as a key part of her career and personal development.

As an event organizer she was responsible for planning and organizing some international and national translators and interpreters conferences, taking care of all the support and logistics for the entire event -budgeting, promotion, negotiating with venues, creating the event program, looking for and managing speaker and organizing the social events and networking activities.

Within this field Paula is also the creator of the training model "Let's have lunch with...!" which aims to help language professionals to learn more about their business to face market challenges and improve business performance!

Since February 2015 Paula is one of the founders and the President of APTRAD, the Portuguese Association of Translators and Interpreters, a formally constituted non-profit organisation based in Porto, in response to a perceived need for a modern, creative and innovative approach in order to achieve greater cohesion and exchange of information at national level within the profession.

Someone once said that "Mentoring is a two-way street! You get out what you put in!" Do you agree?

Unlike a management relationship, mentoring relationships tend to be voluntary on both sides! unlike a coaching relationship, mentoring relationships are more usually unpaid.

The idea behind mentoring relationships is that the more successful, senior professional, the mentor, wishes to pass on some of what they’ve learned to someone else who will benefit from their experience - the mentee.
